A Rose by Any Other Name

Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
St. Thomas's Anglican Church

Join Exultate and new Artistic Director Karen Grylls for the opening concert of the 2011-2012 season in their much-loved St. Thomas’s Anglican Church. This concert embraces music written in honour of the figure of Mary as Virgin, Rose, Star of the Sea and Saint; apt music for this wonderful acoustic. The music resonates through the centuries, and through the images of the Virgin Mary with works by the remarkable medieval philosopher, musician and writer Hildegard of Bingen and Benjamin Britten’s refi ned Hymn to the Virgin.

Baltic Voices

Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.
St. Thomas's Anglican Church

Explore sumptuous choral music from Estonia as Exultate presents music by the famous Arvo Pärt and countrymen Urmas Sisask and Veljo Tormis. Choral singing is an essential part of Estonian music, and the choral tradition is a blend of east and west, and of animism and Christianity. This music captures a spiritual energy that speaks to the soul. The centerpiece of the concert is the majestic Berliner Messe (1990) by Pärt, a perfect example of the richness of Estonian music.

On a Pacific Current

With special guests, The Toronto Children's Chorus, Elise Bradley, Artistic Director

Saturday, May 26, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
St. Anne's Anglican Church, 270 Gladstone Avenue

For the final concert of the season, Exultate welcomes world-renowned Toronto Children’s Chorus for a special performance that unites two cultures. The Karanga or call comes from across the Pacific Ocean. It brings music from Aotearoa (the Maori name for New Zealand) and Australia and joins it with the sounds of the Canadian landscapes. Our Canadian landscape is also refl ected in the venue for this concert, Toronto’s St. Anne’s Anglican Church, home to breathtaking paintings by the Group of Seven. The musical panorama captures two distinctive moonlit vistas, one in the Canadian wilderness and on the rugged New Zealand coast, while other music portrays the influence and important contribution of indigenous peoples. Discover new musical friends on this global tour.
